A Place for Grandma
This week we will be continuing our study of the epistle to Titus. Our current sermon series is: "From Chaos to Christ." We will be studying the second chapter of Titus: Principles for All Ages.
The Church is a place for every age. In a day when everything from MTV to Home Gardening promote and celebrate youthfulness, older Christians can begin to feel or sense that they do not have a place. The Church should be a place where Christ is exalted and all ages are honored. The Bible is very clear on that fact that the elderly are to be honored.
"'Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD" Leviticus 19:32.
Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old" Proverbs 23:22.
Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father" 1 Timothy 5:1.
Matthew Henry says:
"Here is a charge to young people to show respect to the aged, ver. ( Leviticus 19:32 ) . Religion teaches good manners, and obliges us to honour those to whom honour is due."
Church is for all ages, because the Church is the Bride of Christ. From babies to Grandmas; there is a place for everyone!
Do you think that the "cutting edge" churches are making a place for Grandma to feel welcome? If not, how can we see change happen in the church?
